Zelda Cosplay at Dragon*Con 2009 September 21, 2009

A couple of weeks ago, I attended Dragon*Con for the first time. Dragon*Con is one of the largest pop-culture conventions in the world, and it's also the place where cosplayers come out to play. I've enjoyed going to conventions for the last few years because they appeal to my inner sci-fi, fantasy, gaming and costuming geek, but unlike other conventions I've been to, Dragon*Con is one where the number of people in costume far outweighs the number who are not.

I've always found costuming to be a lot of fun, and this update is a pre-cursor to something I've wanted to add to this site for many years: a Zelda cosplay section. "Cosplay" is a combination of the words "costume" and "role-play". Cosplayers usually create and wear their costumes for conventions, some specialised such as anime-only conventions, some more general combining many aspects of pop-culture.

While I was at Dragon*Con, I decided to try and find as many Zelda cosplayers as I could. So I now present to you the photos I took of various attendees in their Zelda costumes. The convention was huge, taking place in not one but four hotels, and there's no way I was able to find every single costume, so I apologise if you were at the event in a Zelda costume and your picture is not here.

Link, after he's been through a few battles.

Very cute Link!

Midna, and Wolf Link. At first, I only spotted Midna, so I was very excited when I saw she had Wolf Link with her!

I'm pretty sure this is the same guy who was in the first picture, but dressed as Link after he's had a chance to freshen up! (The first picture was taken on the Friday, the second on the Saturday).

Link poised for action.

Link and Princess Zelda.

Saria, complete with fairy ocarina. I heard her playing it, too!

Ocarina of Time Link.

Link, looking very relaxed and casual.

As I mentioned, I'm planning to include a Zelda cosplay section on this site, to inspire and help Zelda cosplayers and to allow them to show off their own costumes and creations. So stay tuned for this exciting new feature!

Hey Jolten, if you want to get involved with Zelda cosplay, all you need to do is dress up as a Zelda character and visit a convention. There are loads of them that happen all around the world. Dragon*Con is one of the largest, and you can find out more about it here: http://dragoncon.org/

If you're looking to interact with other Zelda fans, join the forums (http://www.thesacredrealm.net/forums). Several of the members there are cosplayers too!
